Bird Identification and DISTANCE Training
Just in time for many migrants’ return to interior Alaska, ABO will be holding its annual training in Bird Identification and Distance Estimation from May 17-28 2009 (M-F 4-9am) here in Fairbanks. Participants will sharpen and hone the skills necessary to conduct breeding bird surveys this summer. A wide variety of habitats and local birding ‘hotspots’ will be visited so that observers can be calibrated in order to accurately estimate bird distances. The cost of the course is $1000 for the 2 weeks or $150/ day; fee includes training materials (datasheets, CDs) but does not include housing, food, or field gear. Please bring binoculars and laser rangefinders (if you have them). To register for the class or for further information, please contact Sue Guers at (907)451-7159 or sguers@alaskabird.org. Please note: shorter training periods during the same time period are available; call (907) 451-7159 for more information.
