ABO AND THE INTERIOR ALASKA GREEN STAR PROGRAM

ABO is enrolled in the Interior Alaska Green Star program. Green Star ® is a nonprofit organization that encourages businesses to voluntarily practice waste reduction, energy conservation, and pollution prevention. ABO has met the Green Star standards, in large part due to our landlord’s willingness to construct a highly energy efficient and environmentally friendly building for us – right down to the light bulbs and shower head! We’ve equipped our building with Energy Star ® rated appliances to minimize electrical and water consumption, and we use earth-friendly dish soap and laundry detergent. Our employees have installed power saver cords in their cars to minimize energy use by block heaters. We reuse shipping boxes, large envelopes, and paper printed on only one side. Waste paper is sent to the Eielson Air Force Base reuse program, and all cans are collected for recycling. The amount of waste we send to the landfill is surprisingly minimal! As part of our Green Star ® enrollment, we have adopted the following policy:

Our policy is to improve environmental quality through wise business decisions. These include conserving energy, reducing or cutting waste, recycling, and properly disposing of the remaining waste. We believe that our responsibility to prevent pollution is compatible with successful business objectives. Improving our productivity, efficiency, and materials handling requires regular review of business practices. Our business is actively working to achieve and maintain Green Star Standards and to be a model for other businesses and our community.
