ABO’s Privacy Policy

1. Our Commitment to Privacy

Your privacy is important to us. To better protect your privacy we provide this notice explaining our online information practices and the choices you can make about the way your information is collected and used.

It is the official policy of the Alaska Bird Observatory not to share or rent its mailing lists with any other persons or organizations.

2. The Information We Collect

This notice applies to all information collected or submitted on the Alaska Bird Observatory web site. When you visit our web site, we collect statistical information about the pages you visit, the country in which you live, the type of computer (PC or Mac) you use, the kind of browser you use, and the color resolution of your computer. All of this information is statistical only; we cannot trace it to any individual or any specific internet address.

On some pages, you can make pledges, order products, make requests, and register to receive materials. The types of personal information collected at these pages are:

3. The Way We Use Information

We use the information you provide about yourself when placing an order only to complete that order. We do not share this information with outside parties except to the extent necessary to complete that order. We use the information you provide about someone else when placing an order only to ship the product and to confirm delivery. From time to time, we offer gift-cards by which you can personalize a product you order for another person. Information you provide to us to create a gift-card is only used for that purpose, and it is only disclosed to the person receiving the gift.

We use return email addresses to answer the email we receive. Such addresses are not used for any other purpose and are not shared with outside parties.

You can join Alaska Bird Observatory through our web site. Information you submit on our web site will not be used for this purpose unless you fill out the registration form, or indicate on an order form that you would like to receive information.

From time to time, donors make donations in the name of another person. We will use the information provided by that donor to attempt to affect the donor’s wishes.

Finally, we never use or share the personally identifiable information provided to us online in ways unrelated to the ones described above without also providing you an opportunity to opt-out or otherwise prohibit such unrelated uses.

4. Our Commitment to Data Security

To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect.

5. Our Commitment to Children’s Privacy

Protecting the privacy of the very young is especially important. For that reason, we never collect or maintain information at our web site from those people we actually know are under 13. Portions of our web site are designed for educational purposes and are intended for viewing by children under the age of 13. However, no portions of those pages solicit or seek any personal information. We have attempted to make this web site fully compliant with the Children’s On-Line Personal Privacy Act of 1998. If you think any part of our web site violates COPPA, please contact us immediately.

6. How You Can Access or Correct Your Information

Alaska Bird Observatory does not presently have the ability to provide on-line verification of the information we collect. If you want to verify the information, please call Alaska Bird Observatory at the telephone number below. You may contact us via email at the address shown below, but please do not send confidential information like credit card numbers via email; it is not secure.

You can correct factual errors in your personally identifiable information by sending us a request that credibly shows the error. To protect your privacy and security, we will also take reasonable steps to verify your identity before granting access or making corrections.
