Giving to ABO
Your gift to the Alaska Bird Observatory is far more than “just a donation.” It provides a means to advance the appreciation, understanding, and conservation of birds and their habitats through research and education.
The ABO Board of Directors has established a Restricted Funds Savings Account to provide for future funding of ABO and particularly of our monitoring and educational work on Creamer’s Refuge.
There are several ways to give to ABO and you can direct your gift to any project you choose – education, outreach, the Creamer’s Field Banding Station, or you can give an unrestricted gift, which allows ABO to apply your contribution to where it is most needed.
- Become a member.
- Donate to ABO using your credit card through the Donate Now button at the top of the page.
- Join the Arctic Wings Giving Society (Members of the Arctic Wings Giving Circle contribute to the long-term sustainability of ABO by pledging to donate $1,000 per year for five years). Call Nicole at 451-7159 for more informtion.
- Contribute to ABO through the Alaska Permanent Fund Charitable Contributions Program – Pick. Click. Give.
Or
- Provide a lasting gift to ABO by one of the following means.
One of the simplest ways to make a lasting gift to ABO is to provide for us in your will or estate plan by stating that a certain sum be conveyed to ABO from your estate (a specific bequest) or that a percentage of your estate – after specific bequests have been made – be conveyed to ABO from your estate (a residual percentage bequest). ABO’s tax ID number is 92-0156477. Your attorney may find the following language helpful when drafting provisions to fulfill your estate gift to ABO.
“I hereby give to the Alaska Bird Observatory, a tax-exempt organization as described in Subsection 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, located in Fairbanks, Alaska, for the sum of $_______________ (a specific bequest) (or ________ percent of my residual estate (a residual percentage bequest), to be used to support the Alaska Bird Observatory (or a specific program of the Alaska Bird Observatory).”
Other ways to make a lasting gift to ABO:
Life Insurance: You can name ABO as a beneficiary to your life insurance policy. You can also donate the entire policy to ABO and in return take a charitable deduction for the cash value of the policy.
Charitable Gift Annuity: This enables you to make a gift to ABO while you receive fixed annual payments for life. There may also be tax benefits to you.
Donors should consult with their attorney when drafting their will and other legal documents and with their financial advisor when preparing estate plans.
