Alaska Bird Observatory

ABO 2006 Internship Openings Will Be Posted Here Starting in November

Develop your field skills while experiencing the long days and beauty of the far north! The Alaska Bird Observatory offers several internship opportunities in Fairbanks and other interior Alaska locations. All applicants must possess a demonstrated interest in ornithology, above-average physical condition, a strong work ethic, and excellent interpersonal skills. ABO internships are volunteer positions; however, interns will receive of cost-of-living allowance to defray their expenses (please note that the IRS considers stipends taxable income and appropriate deductions will be taken from paychecks).

Helpful Hints for Applicants

1. Keep your cover letter brief, telling us why you want the internship and summarizing your qualifications and experience. Emphasize skills and experience relevant to the internship for which you are applying.

2. If you have prior banding experience, please state the approximate number of birds you have banded.

3. Make sure you complete all items on the ABO application form - especially ALL of the information requested under "Employment Experience" on page 2.

4. Have someone else proofread your resume. Spelling and grammatical errors may indicate that you don't pay attention to detail.

5. Do not include your transcript.

6. We prefer to receive hard copies of resumes, but if you want to send us yours over the Internet, please include it in the body of your message and not as an attached file.
