Yellow-rumped Warbler
(Dendroica coronata)
More Yellow-rumped Warblers are caught at ABO than any other species. We call them "butter-butts" for fun. Watch for a flash of yellow as they fly through the trees.
Description: The male's rump, crown and sides are bright yellow. The back is blue-black with black stripes and the throat, wing bars and belly are white. They have a black mask. Females are similar but not as brightly colored.
Food: insects and an occasional berry.
Habitat: mixed forest.
Winter: southeast United States through Central America to Panama.
