Sharp-shinned Hawk

Sharp-shinned Hawks are the smallest woodland hawk.
Description: Their back is blue-gray and chest and belly are white with heavy rust-colored crossbars. The young have yellow eyes which change to red when they become mature. The tail has narrow bands of black and white ending with a narrow white tip. The feet are yellow. Females are much larger than the males.
Food: small birds.
Habitat: dense mixed forest.
Winter: southern Alaska and Canada and through the United States and Mexico.
